Nesting parameter to consider waste as offcuts
The program classifies waste as either offcut or scrap by comparing its dimensions to the minimum offcut dimension parameters (Length, Width and Area).
When a board has grain, offcuts are recorded so that their grain matches the grain direction of the board (i.e. the offcut length is the dimension parallel to the original board length). Waste is only recorded as an offcut if it reaches the minimum offcut dimensions in the orientation as it appears in the pattern. This means that some large areas of grained waste may be marked as scrap.
In some cases, the grain direction of an offcut is not important, only the overall size. In this case, ensure that this parameter is checked.
Similarly, when a board is not grained and the parameter ‘Preserve orientation of non-grained offcuts’ is checked, offcuts are recorded with dimensions as they appear in the pattern. This can also mean that some large areas of waste are marked as scrap. If the orientation of the offcut is not important with respect to the minimum offcut dimensions, this should be checked to allow more offcuts to be created.

Notes
- Grained offcuts which only exceed the minimum offcut dimensions in rotated orientation appear in the offcut list in the orientation shown on the pattern.
