Board library / board list field - set constraints on use of each board during Optimisation
Limits can be quite difficult to judge and can affect Optimising results (cutting patterns) so always check the effects of any change carefully and over several runs.
A setting of 0 is the standard option - this means optimisers have no constraints on how board sizes are used except they must not exceed the quantity of each board size in stock. If in doubt about limits use: 0
The other common situation is where there is no limit on stock quantities - in this case use a limit of: 8, or set the quantity of stock in the Board library to: 99999 and set the limit to 0.
0 - do not exceed quantity in stock
8 - unlimited stock
9 - exceed stock if no other board sizes
1 - use boards in ratio
2 - use boards in ratio
3 - use boards in ratio
4 - sundry cost per item
5 - sundry cost per length
6 - sundry cost per area
7 - internal software use only (users should not choose)
Board ratios - For example, to use two boards sizes in approximately the same proportion 1:1 or 50:50 enter a figure of ‘1’ as the limit setting against each board type. (For example, 1 - ratio 1:1, 2 - ratio 2:1, 3 - ratio 3:1).
The ratio is useful where boards are supplied in a fixed proportion because they are produced from a larger board of fixed size. For example, if the original board is 6000mm x 2050mm and the cut is at 2000mm, the result is two boards:-
Board-1 4000 x 2050 (158" x 80")
Board-2 2000 x 2050 ( 78" x 80")
In this case the boards are produced in the ratio 1:1
Sundry parts - these are items in the part list that are NOT optimised. Typical examples are 'bought in' doors, foil on rolls, fixed rails and some drawer components. The material for sundry parts is set up in the board library in the usual way but with some special settings as the material is not optimised.
4 - cost per item (No. parts x cost)
5 - cost per length (part length x No. parts x cost) - linear metres/feet
6 - cost per area (part area x No. parts x cost) - square metres/feet
Nested patterns
The Shaped nesting optimiser allows users to set a 'limit' value of '9' for certain boards - this allows the quantity of these boards used by the Shaped nesting optimiser to exceed the quantity in the board list. When the quantity used exceeds the board list quantity a warning is displayed:
For Shaped nesting optimisations the following board limit values can be used:-
Board limit 0 - do not exceed quantity in stock
Board limit 8 - unlimited stock
Board limit 9 - unlimited stock, a warning is displayed when the quantity used exceeds the quantity in the board list
Notes
- Do not set a ratio for one board only
- Do not use ratios for small amounts of stock
- Cannot set a limit for an offcut - it is always 0
- Cannot use 8 or 9 and ratios with the Cross cut only, Rip only, or Strip production optimisers
- The tolerance on board ratios is approximately 3 boards
- A list with ratios set and some not set is allowed. For example:-
Board 1 - ratio = 2
Board 2 - ratio = 1
Board 3 - ratio = 0
Board 4 - ratio = 3
- Board ratios are only obeyed by the following optimiser types:- Automatic selection, Medium quantity
- Do not select limit 7 as this is only used internally by the software and is not a valid option for a user to select
