Compact libraries

Reduce the size of libraries such as the part library or drawing library

It is worth compacting libraries that have grown very large as this improves performance and keeps the file size to a minimum.

Always take a back-up copy of any library before compacting.

Only compact one library at a time

(To make a back-up copy in File Management select the library then choose the COPY button and enter a location and name for the copy, for example, c:\V12\DATA\LIBRARIES\mpartv11-BackUP)

On a network make sure that no-one else is using the library

Check that free disk space is greater than the current library size

To compact a library, at the File Management screen:-

Select Libraries file type in the left pane

 Select Library (e.g. Board library)

 Select: File - Compact

or

Select the Toolbar option

The program prompts:-

 OK to confirm

Other options

Cancel - abandon compact

Notes

- If there is an error during the compact process usually the library is unchanged and can still be used (but it is best to always take a back-up copy before attempting the Compact process).

- Compact is also available from a pop-up menu (right click with mouse)
