Options at the main screen to convert data from a previous Version to the current Version
All the data (part lists, results, settings, parameters ...) is usually stored under a 'user profile' e.g. User 1. This folder/directory (and linked directories) contain all the data, part lists and results for a user and contains links to the common data used such as the board library and export data.
To move this data from an older version to a later one, e.g. from and earlier version to V12, the user data and the common data must be converted for the new version and copied to a new location.
Always use the latest version of the software for copy / convert
Identify the user profile to convert and the new location. For example, the old data may be located in c:\V9\Data\User 1 and the new data needs to be in c:\V12\Data\User 1.
At the Main screen:-
● Select: Tools - Copy / Convert user profile
The program moves through the conversion options to select the folders to convert and the destination. There are some choices to be made because, for example, if converting several user profiles it is not necessary to convert the common data each time; this can be selected once for the first user profile converted.
Where there are several users the conversion needs to be planned carefully because once any common data is converted all users must be on the new version of the software.
Notes
- There is an alternative option for copying individual folders. Tools - Copy / Convert folder
- The change in the data between versions is often quite minor but it is important that the copy / convert is done as otherwise there may be unexpected results or problems which are time consuming to resolve.
