Dealing with fractional inches
Enter a decimal number in the usual way.
5.5 millimetres
1.125 decimal inches
In millimetres enter up to 1 decimal place and in decimal inches up to 3 decimal places
Enter the number - check the number - and move off the box with TAB or ENTER/RETURN. The number is checked and re-formatted where necessary.
If the measurement mode is fractional inches enter measurements as fractions:-
3-3/16
5-15/32
Can also use a space instead of the forward oblique (/) separator - this is sometimes more convenient when typing. For example:-
3-1 2 = 3-1/2
3 1 2 3-1/2
1 2 1/2
Fractions are based on a unit of 1/64 of an inch.
Values such as 1/3 or 5/12 are not valid
Values such as 4/16 are converted to the lowest denominator e.g. 1/4
Accuracy - If measurement mode changes between decimal inches and fractional inches the library values are automatically converted. But from decimal inches to fractional inches there can be a loss of accuracy. For example: 1.545 decimal inches is converted to 1-35/64 which when converted back to decimal is 1.547 decimal inches. This rounding only occurs once from decimal inches to fractions and is usually below the normal accuracy for cutting.
