Pre-laminated (combination or composite) parts - Overview

Using parts with pre-laminated (combination or composite) materials

These are parts that are cut from boards of pre-laminated material, for example:-

CORE  - MDF

FRONT - WHITE LAMINATE

BACK  - GREY LAMINATE

In most cases these boards are not kept in stock but are produced (pressed) as required.

The requirements for each board depend on the number of parts and the different material combinations required, for example:-

Part       Size       Quantity   Core      Front      Back

PA/10    1210 x 590     2       CHIP/15   WHITELM    WHITELM

PA/11    1210 x 590     2       CHIP/15   WHITELM    GREYLM

PA/12    1210 x 590     2       CHIP/15   WHITELM    BLUELM

The size of the pre-laminated boards can vary with each job as this depends on which boards sizes of each material are available and there can be a large variation in size between core material and laminate sheets.

The material combinations for each part are entered in the part list against the parts and the part list is optimised in the usual way. Review runs reports are modified to show the Pre-laminated boards and the underlying stock boards (core, laminate etc).

Pre-defined composite materials

In addition to using a general composite material (=) where you define the components for each part, you can also use pre-defined composite materials, for example, =REDWHT. To define these components you enter the material code in the board library, and enter the material codes for each component in the material description field as three entries each separated by a space. The material description is passed to the working board list.

For example, MDF/18 RED WHITE

Note that we do allow the component material codes to contain spaces if they are enclosed in quotes, so the following line would be OK:

Material desc: "core material" "front laminate" "Back laminate"

Note that the Material description field is 50 char max. The material description is passed to the working board list.

Use these pre-defined composites when entering parts in the part list. These work in the same way as just using the general composite material code (=), except that the component codes are automatically entered for you to save time and make the operation more accurate.

Enter preferred sizes for the pre-defined composites in the same way as entering pre-defined sized for the undefined composites.

The option: Update stock from runs (Stock control module) is used to update the stock quantities.
