Depth in horizontal plane

Homag machining

This is also referred to as 'Position in Z'

Enter the depth for a horizontal operation (position in Z) (e.g. a horizontal bore). For example: 10  (Z=10)

Enter all Z distances in the part drawing measured from the top of the part.

If a machining centre usually references from the bed of the machine (or bottom of the part) the program automatically adjusts the Z value to account for this. For example, if the instruction is Z=6 when transferring to a machine referencing from the bottom this is interpreted as:-

Z=part thickness - 6

If no depth is given it is assumed to be: Thickness/2.

Position in Z - Homag WoodWop 4+ only. If the machining parameter 'Transfer mode' is set to 8 (Homag WoodWop 4+) the Position in Z for a horizontal drill (or universal drill) can be defined via the Tools dialog in the box 'Position in Z'. This distance is measured from the top of the material.

When this value is transferred to the MPR(X) file it is converted to a value measured from the bottom of the material (part thickness - value entered in 'Position in Z' box).

For example, if the position in Z value is 6 and the part thickness is 15mm the value transferred to the MPR(X) file is 9 (15-6).

A new 'Z1=' option allows you to set the 'position in Z value' using the same rules as the MPR(X) file, that is, measured from the bottom of the material.

To do this enter the command 'Z1=' in the tool field (not in the 'Position in Z' field) for example, Z1=9. In this case the value '9' is transferred without conversion.

If both a Z and a Z1 value are entered the Z value is ignored and the Z1 value is written to the MPR(X) file.
