Machining - separate files for front and back

How machine instructions are dealt with for a part

Machining instructions for each part are created in a separate files for each part and by default the files are stored in the path set by the Machining centre parameter: Path for transfer. These files are in a format specified by each machining centre manufacturer, for example, MPR(X) format for Homag and ASC format for Morbidelli.

Each file has a unique name based on the last used Drawing number:-

10002.MPR

10003.MPR

10004.MPR

The last drawing number is stored (or set) by the Machining centre parameter: Last drawing number

An alternative naming format is 'run number/sequence number' where the name is based on the run number and the order of the part in the cutting list.

20009001.MPR

20009002.MPR

20009003.MPR

Where 20009 is the run number. The choice of naming method is set by the Information box: Drawing name (transfer).

Front and back instructions

WoodWop Homag (MPR(X)) 4.0+ and Aspan Morbidelli (ASC) 3.2 and 4.0

Some parts contain machining instructions for both the front and back of the part and it is sometimes useful to place the front and back instructions in separate files.

To work in this way the following Information boxes must be set (Parameters - Information boxes). Drawing name - transfer and Transfer name - back. These are in the 'Drawing' section of the Information box list. Set these parameters as follows:-

Drawing name - transfer: 'Path for FRONT instructions'

Transfer name - back 'Path for BACK instructions' (or blank)

For example:-

Drawing name - transfer: C:\VX\TRANSFER

Transfer name - back C:\VX\BACK (or blank)

Also set the Machining centre parameter: Split Front / Back instructions

(Check the box to set it)

If the above parameter is set the following parameter also becomes available. Machining centre parameter: Separate path for Back

(Check the box to set it).

If both parameters are set the result is to place the front and back instructions in separate files and in separate directories.

C:\VX\TRANSFER           C:\VX\BACK

10002F.MPR               10002B.MPR

10003F.MPR               10003B.MPR

10004F.MPR               10004B.MPR

Note that the front and back files are labelled with the letters 'F' and 'B'.

If the machining centre parameter: Separate path for Back is enabled and set but no path is entered in the Transfer name - Back parameter  the program creates a separate path with a fixed name of BKMCH

C:\VX\TRANSFER           C:\VX\TRANSFER\BKMCH

10002F.MPR               10002B.MPR

10003F.MPR               10003B.MPR

10004F.MPR               10004B.MPR

If the parameter: Separate path for Back is not set the result is:-

C:\VX\TRANSFER

10002F.MPR

10002B.MPR

10003F.MPR

10003B.MPR

10004F.MPR

10004B.MPR

If the front and back instructions are not split the result is:-

C:\VX\TRANSFER

10002.MPR

10003.MPR

10004.MPR

Note - each file has a unique name so it does not matter whether the files are generated from one run or several

Sub folders for each run - front and back not split

The machining centre parameter: Subfolder for each run is used to place machining files from different runs in different folders. The subfolder name is based on the run name. In the following case (without splitting front and back instructions). The result is (for runs 21019 and 21020)

C:\VX\TRANSFER\21019     C:\VX\TRANSFER\21020

10002.MPR                 10005.MPR

10003.MPR                 10006.MPR

10004.MPR                 10007.MPR

Note - the drawing name is unique and increase across runs

Sub folders for each run - front and back split

WoodWop Homag (MPR(X)) 4.0+ and Aspan Morbidelli (ASC) 3.2 and 4.0

If front and back instructions are split but are not in separate directories the result is:-

C:\VX\TRANSFER\21019     C:\VX\TRANSFER\21020

10002F.MPR                 10005F.MPR

10002B.MPR                 10005B.MPR

10003F.MPR                 10006F.MPR

10003B.MPR                 10006B.MPR

10004F.MPR                 10007F.MPR

10004B.MPR                 10007B.MPR

If the front and back instructions are split and the parameter: Separate path for back is set and does not contain a path name the result is:-

C:\VX\TRANSFER\21019     C:\VX\TRANSFER\21019\BKMCH

10002F.MPR                 10002B.MPR

10003F.MPR                 10003B.MPR

10004F.MPR                 10004B.MPR

C:\VX\TRANSFER\21020     C:\VX\TRANSFER\2120\BKMCH

10005F.MPR                 10005B.MPR

10006F.MPR                 10006B.MPR

10007F.MPR                 10007B.MPR

If the front and back instructions are split and the parameter: Separate path for back is set and does contain a path name the result is:-

C:\VX\TRANSFER\21019     C:\VX\TRANSFER\BACK\21019

10002F.MPR                 10002B.MPR

10003F.MPR                 10003B.MPR

10004F.MPR                 10004B.MPR

C:\VX\TRANSFER\21020     C:\VX\TRANSFER\BACK\21020

10005F.MPR                 10005B.MPR

10006F.MPR                 10006B.MPR

10007F.MPR                 10007B.MPR

See the topics below for full details on each parameter

Notes

 - Names for the drawing files are assigned when the run is optimised. A name for the file for the operations on the back is only assigned if there is at least one operation on the back at this stage. This means that if the first back operation is added in review machining then this instruction is lost as no separate back file is created.

- These options cannot be used with library based MPR(X) files (that is, parts with associated MPR(X) files)
