Pricing based on formula

Method of pricing for Quotes / Orders

Each product has a PRICE field and this can contain a fixed value or the price can be based on a formula. The formula enables you to adjust the price based on variable features of each product such as the finish or style.

The price formula is evaluated as the unit product price in Quote. This is available for the Price List and Mixed Pricing methods but not for the Cost Plus method. Price formulae are not used if pricing by catalogue. Formulae can contain the dimension variables X, Y and Z.

Product prices can still be set by a value, or variable, in a memo field at the Product library screen.  This allows old pricing data to be used.

Product Library - Enter price formulae at the Product Library in the field: Price (fx). Either a formula name can be used or formulae can be entered in full at the Product Library. An absolute value can be entered as an alternative to a formula. Use the associated fx button to denote entries as formulae. Formulae can contain variables, however, a variable cannot be used instead of a formula. The formula is evaluated and displayed in the status window at the foot of the Product Library when the user tabs or clicks on the Price (fx) field. An evaluation based on default values is used if the formula contains variables. An error message is displayed if the evaluation is incorrect for a product price; is negative, or if the formula syntax is wrong. The price formula is displayed instead of an evaluation if the formula uses a dimension and the respective dimension field for that product is empty or just contains =.

If the formula name is used at the Product Library screen, and that formula uses variables, each variable used must be declared in a memo field. If this is not done then those variables are not prompted for by the Variables dialog in Quote and an error occurs. If the price formula is written in full at the Product Library screen there is no need to declare variables in memo fields.

Price formulae cannot be entered for sub-assemblies.

On Exit or if you move to another product the screen displays any syntax errors in the formulae.

Quote parameter settings Set the memo field for price to  =. This denotes product price by formula. The pricing method must be set to either 1 or 2. Quote parameters are set at the screen 'Quotes / orders – parameters.

Operation in Quote - When using price based on all formula, the unit product price is calculated from the formula. The price displayed in the column Unit price is taken from this value and any applied discount. Products without a price formula, or absolute value, assigned in the Price (fx) field at the Product Library have a unit price of 0.00.

You can change any variables at the Variables dialog in the usual way.

Errors - The screen displays any syntax or obvious errors such as a negative price and the price is set to 0.00

Dimension dependent prices (prices based on formulae containing X, Y and / or Z) can be updated at the screen if the product concerned uses default values for its respective dimension(s).
