Detailed notes on tension trims
Tension trims can be deleted in pattern amendment (like waste parts) but are be automatically reinserted when the run is recalculated (if sufficient rip-waste is available).
Last but one type
The 'last but one' rip must be in the rear half of the board
One tension trim is inserted for each staggered block
Minimum tension trim is saw blade thickness + (0.1mm : 0.001in : 1/64in).
If the tension trim parameter: Overall width including saw blade thicknesses is less than the minimum value the software defaults to the minimum.
Slot / edge notches
Tension trims are inserted between each strip of a staggered block
Minimum tension trim is saw blade thickness + (0.1mm : 0.001in : 1/64in)
Cutting times and extra time for tension trim
Two rips, rather than one, are required to create strips separated by a tension trim. The software calculates the time for the extra rip using normal rules.
The saw parameter Extra time for tension trim applies only to slot / edge notches methods and covers the times for:-
Positioning material for the slot / edge notches
Creating the slot / edge notches with one or more passes of the saw blade
Return of material for first rip
This is applied per tension trim per cycle.
Transfer to saw
Tension trims are only inserted into patterns for Homag/Holzma saw models.
Tension trim tight fit patterns
Generally, when reserving waste for tension trims during optimising it is assumed a rip tension trim is required beneath each strip and a crosscut tension trim is required after each part. However, this can prevent the optimisation of large parts smaller than the trimmed board when there is insufficient room to also accommodate tension trims. In these cases the tension trim is not required and is not inserted.
Setup
Setting tension trim controls via saw parameters requires a CADmatic controller.
If the tension trim type is set to 'None' all other tension trim controls are disabled.
Tension trim controls in material parameters override the setting for saw parameters unless the control is 'turned off' in material parameters via the overrides dialog. This only applies to materials using the material parameter file.
For the program to calculate tension trim requirements correctly it is essential that all board trims are set to a value which is larger than the saw kerf.
