Grain - boards

Board library / board list setting for grain for each board size

- Enter or select the grain for the board

Y

grain runs along length

X

grain runs along width

N

not grained

In most cases the grain for a board size is the same as the setting for the board material (set in the Board library) and does not need to be changed at the board list or in the record for the board size in the board library - all these settings are the same.

However, there are some situations where the grain for the board size can be different from the setting for the material and needs to be altered at the board list or in the board library (see below).

Notes

Grain for board size

In some situations where it is important to know the grain direction (along the length or along the width) the dimensions of the Board affect this and it is necessary to specify a grain direction for the board size.

The grain for a part is determined from grain flag for each board size in the Board list.

The grain setting is used to determine the orientation of a part on a board when patterns are created.

For example, where a part is marked with a grain of 'Y' and the board has grain set to 'Y' the part and board must always be in the same orientation. The full set of rules is:-

Offcuts

Offcuts take the grain setting of the original board. If the original board is not grained the offcut length is set to the larger dimension.
