Problems with Help

In updates to Windows 2000 and Windows XP and for subsequent versions security was changed for Internet Explorer. Because Internet Explorer and Help use the same code to display help pages these security changes can also affect help (CHM files).

(1) If the Help files are on a Server and are clicked directly (via Windows Explorer) they may not run. Move the CHM files to the local machine.

(2) On installation the program always stores the CHM files on the local PC - even with a Server - Client set up where most of the software is on the Server. At a Client install (at the 'Destination folder' question) always enter the name of the Share (e.g. n:\Vx), that is, the directory where the program is installed on the server (check with the System Administrator). This allows the install to place the CHM files in the correct location on the Client PC.

(3) If Help runs but the links and buttons within the help pages are not working this is also caused by a security fix. This can often be cleared by un-registering and re-registering the file hhctrl.ocx. Check with the System administrator for details - there are also other actions they can take to fix this problem.
