Strip production - cut consecutive cross cut cycles

Saw parameters to control strip production

For high volume strip production runs there may be several cycles of the same crosscut pattern. The crosscut saw can often cut more than one cycle at a time by loading several full books of strips across the saw.

To allow for this feature in the cutting times ensure that the following saw parameters are set.

Maximum width for cross cutting multiple strips

Max number of strips for multiple cross cutting

To disable this feature: Set either:  'Max width for cross cutting multiple strips' to a small value (less than the smallest part dimension) or set 'Max number of strips for multiple cross cutting' to 1. This forces the program to crosscut only one book of strips at a time.

Cutting times -The program uses the Saw parameter: Max width for cross cutting multiple strips and the clamps parameters to work out how many strips can be cut together.

Note - strips represent consecutive cycles of a crosscut pattern rather than adjacent strips produced by ripping

Full books only - Only full books can be cut this way because a variation in book height across the strips causes problems for the pressure beam and clamps.

For example:-

Max width for crosscutting multiple strips: 1800mm

Crosscut strip width: 600mm

Book height: 5

Pattern Run quantity: 40

This produces the following cutting sequence:-

Number of cycles: 3

Cycle 1: 3 full books of 5 strips = 15 strips

Cycle 2: 3 full books of 5 strips = 15 strips

Cycle 3: 2 full books of 5 strips = 10 strips

                                    ---

                                    40 strips

Pattern summary - the strip name (board code) for crosscut patterns is usually shown as 'Strip/n' where n is the strip number (for example 'Strip/1'). Where two or more strips are cut together this is indicated on the pattern summary by adding this information to the strip name, for example: 'Strip/1 X 2'.

Pattern display - where multiple books of a crosscut pattern are crosscut together the additional books in the cutting cycle are shown by dotted lines beneath the crosscut pattern.

Transfer to saw - Manual changes may be required at the saw controller to cut the crosscut cycles in the arrangement indicated by the pattern display. This depends upon the Saw model.
