Technical details for the Board library
Check with the System Administrator before attempting these procedures
Occasionally an Access database can become locked and cannot be accessed. This can happen sometimes when a user turns off a machine without exiting correctly from running programs or the network.
The usual cause is that the file that keeps track of the database users and changes is locked and cannot close down or be deleted. This file has an extension LDB and the same name as the database.
The following procedure should be used to unlock and/or delete the LDB file. It is then possible to run the Compact / Repair utility to fix the database or it may be that the database can run without repair once the LDB file is unlocked or removed.
Do the following in sequence and check whether the LDB file has gone or can be deleted after each step. At each stage try and run the Database from Access or run the Optimising program (Board library).
• All current users exit from the program
• All today’s users log off from Network (it is OK for them to log on again straightaway)
• All those on the Network log off
• Reboot Network server
Once the LDB file has gone or can be deleted the database can be used or in some cases it may be necessary to run the Compact / Repair utility first either via the Optimising program or directly from Access.
