Nesting settings that vary with each material
The value of a parameter can change for different materials. For example, the machining speed may be faster for 15mm (9/16in) material than for 25mm (1in) material.
Material Material code Speed
15mm MFC MFC15 40 m/s
25mm MFC MFC25 25 m/s
In this example, where each material is the same type (MFC), all the other parameter values may be the same and it would be tedious to set up one list of parameters for 15mm MFC and another for 25mm MFC.
To avoid this problem define an extra set of parameters; called Material parameters. These are a selection of parameters from the Optimising, Saw, and Nesting parameter lists that are most likely to change with material.
At the main screen:-
● Select: Parameters - Material parameters
- Create a new list or select an existing list in the usual way
- For Nesting select the Nesting tabs in turn.

Routing
- Check the parameters and change values as required.
Operation
- Save the material parameter list with the same name as the material code e.g. MDF18. This ensures the material parameters are automatically used with that material.
Each individual parameter operates in the same way as the same parameter in the Nesting parameter lists.
Overrides - If a set of material parameters are in use for a run the values of each material parameter override the values in other lists. This option (Material parameters screen) is used to say whether this override action is allowed or not for each parameter. This gives more control over the operation of the material parameters and helps to avoid unintended overrides.
How to determine that material parameters are used
If a run has been produced with the material parameters set, this is shown on the summaries and patterns in Review runs with a ? symbol preceding the parameter names in the line showing the file names (towards the top of each report).

The material parameter names are also shown on the Material summary.
Notes
- The parameters may apply at the material level or on a 'per board' basis. This depends on each parameter and what it does.
Refer to the 'Material Parameters' topics for more details
- The material parameters shown depend on the modules in use. For example, for Nesting, typically only the nesting parameters are needed.
