How to work with Edging using MPR(X) files
MPR(X) parts can use the Edging options for Optimising. The optimiser adjusts the part sizes to allow for edging. Edging is set up in the usual way via the Edging options at the Part list and the Edging library.
Set the following System parameters (Routing / Nesting tab).
- Use set variable names for MPR(X) dimensions (Check for 'Yes')
- 'Length’ and ‘Width’ MPR(X) variables must be defined (e.g. L B and D)
- Adjust MPR(X) dimensions for edging (Check for 'Yes')
Edging is calculated when the cutting list is created prior to optimsiing. If the dimensions of an MPR(X) part are adjusted for edging during the cutting list calculation, the dimension variables are also updated.
e.g. MPR(X) dimensions for variables are set to L,B and D
In the part list a part is 300 x 200 so L is set to 300 and B is set to 200 in the drawing dialog. In the cutting list the part becomes 298 x 198 because of edging the variables in the drawing dialog are automatically changed to L=298 and B=198. These variables are used to generate the machining drawing shown in review runs and the part drawing transferred to a machining centre.
For details of edging see the help topic: Edging and Laminating - Overview
Notes
- The updating of MPR(X) dimension variables happens for both MPR(X) parts with and without borders.
- The edging summary in review runs now contains information on MPR(X) parts that contain a border.
- Edging summary information is calculated whenever the relevant edging codes are specified but the MPR(X) drawing dimensions are only adjusted by the thickness of the edging if the system parameter: Adjust MPR(X) dimensions for edging is set.
