How to set up the Network key Licence manager, Network key driver and Network key
Check with the Network administrator before attempting to install the Network key software - they may need to set security and access rights.
The most common option is to place the Network key and the Network key software on a Network Server
Before installing the Licence manager make sure the existing licence manager (if any) is NOT running
Insert
the CD-ROM
If the install process starts running - cancel this - look at the CD-ROM contents by Right clicking on the CD-ROM icon and choosing. Explore
The Network key software is in the directory ..\NETWORKS\NETKEY
If
using a Download version - the set of directories is the same as the CD-ROM
● Create a directory to contain the Network key software
Use Windows Explorer to set up a directory on the PC or Server. This can be any directory name, for example, N:\NETKEY
If Network key software directories already exist they can be overwritten; this makes sure the Network software is up to date.
● Copy the Network software from CD-ROM to PC or server
To do this copy the contents of ..\NETWORKS\NETKEY to the directory set up on the PC or server.
(If using a Download version from a self-extracting file - double click on the EXE to extract the files to a temporary location on the PC or server; the files are extracted to a sub-directory. Follow the above steps to copy the Network key software to a separate location on the PC or server).
● Install the Network key device driver
- From the Start button on the Windows Taskbar select the Run option
- Run the program HaspUserSetup with the setting -i. e.g. N:\NETKEY\HaspUserSetup.exe -i
If updating an existing system make sure that any Licence manager services that are running are stopped before installing HaspUserSetup.
● Set up the Network key Licence Manager on the PC or Server
The Licence Manager is set up with the program LMSETUP.EXE (must be run under a compatibility mode (Vista Service pack 2) so needs to be copied to a hard drive. Right click the exe and set the required compatibility mode.
To install the Licence Manager:-
- Move to the directory ..\NETWORKS\NETKEY
- Double click on LMSETUP.EXE to run it (after setting the compatibility mode)
- Follow the on-screen instructions for the LMSETUP install program
- Ensure that the program is installed as a service and not an application
These choices can be changed later if necessary by running LMSETUP again.
It may be necessary to re-start the computer for the settings to take effect
Licence Manager Install - Notes
- Installing the Licence Manager as a service is advisable if the PC hosting the key is not accessible (for example, a server located in a different office); in this case the Licence Manager runs as soon as the PC starts.
- During installation the LMSETUP program may modify firewall rules and installs an additional device driver
- The Licence Manager cannot be installed without accepting the Licence Manager licence agreement
- When installing the Licence Manager for Windows 7 onwards the Licence Manager setup program (lmsetup) must be run under a compatibility mode (Vista Service pack 2).
- Ignore Warning "Newer drivers are already installed!"
When Licence Manager (lmsetup) runs, it reports that newer drivers are already installed (by HaspUserSetup). This warning can be ignored.
If the licence manager is subsequently uninstalled, it may report an error message:
Operating system not supported
Error code 3 0 67 0
This error is expected and may be ignored.
Customising the Licence manager
In a few cases it is necessary to customise the operation of the Licence manager by editing the file nhsrv.ini. This is installed by LMSETUP and is located in the directory ..\Program Files\Aladdin\HASP LM. The file can be edited by a text editor such as Notepad.
It is best to check with your supplier before attempting to customise the Licence Manager - they often have experience of common problems and how to fix them by altering the settings in this file.
An example of the file nhsrv.ini is also located in the folder ..\NETWORKS\OTHER
● Insert network security key in a parallel or USB port on the PC or Server
Make sure the key is in the correct port and secure.
Notes
- When installing the Licence Manager (lmsetup.exe) under Windows 7 / Windows 8.x, a compatibility mode setting is required (Vista Service pack 2).
Network key monitor
When running under Windows 8 / Server 2012 and later versions of Windows, it is no longer possible to stop / start services from the network monitor application. This must be done from the Services section of Administrative Tools (Control Panel).
Removal of old drivers
In some cases it may be necessary to remove previously installed network key drivers. For example, if installing HaspUserSetup.exe produces error messages. The recommended procedure in this case is listed below.
- Remove 'Sentinel Runtime' (Control panel)
- Restart system
- Remove legacy drivers:
Open a command-line prompt and navigate to the '\Networks\legacy' folder on the release C
Type: haspdinst.exe -fr -kp
- Restart system
- Reinstall Sentinel Runtime (HaspUserSetup.exe)
- Restart system
