Optimiser did not use simple multiples of a pattern

Question. I recently had two patterns for producing furniture for a single caravan. I then received an order for 10 more sets of furniture and just increased all the quantities by 10. I expected to get the two patterns run 10 times each but in fact I got a completely different set of patterns and run quantities. Surely this is wrong?

Answer. No this is OK. When you increase the quantities for any part you also give the optimiser a much wider choice of patterns - because it can run, for example, 4 of the part in 1 pattern 4 in another and 2 in another an so on. This usually produces a better result and you will find that the new set of patterns is saving you money although a first sight this can seem strange.
