Question. I set grain for the parts to NO (in the part list) and got patterns with worse waste
Answer. Normally you would expect parts with no grain to be more easily fitted into a board because the parts can be fitted lengthways or widthways so there are more chances of a good fit, so this is an unexpected result.
Some combinations of parts and board sizes are really awkward and turning the part does not make much difference so all the extra computation is wasted and you may get a worse result because the optimiser has not had time to look at other more efficient solutions.
However they must be really awkward parts to cause a problem and in most cases setting grain to NO will tend to decrease waste.
