Options for Drawings

The snap options on the Standard toolbar at the Drawings screen set the operation of the drawing cursor.

 Snap to grid

Snap to object

Both buttons must be OFF for no snap to occur.

Snap to grid - any new line or object snaps to the nearest grid point

Snap to object - When positioning a new drawing object points on the object snap to fixed points on existing objects. This allows accurate placing of objects next to each other or in a line. The snap points are usually the start and end points of lines or the corners of rectangles and for curved shapes often centre or a tangent or another obvious reference point for the shape. If the option 'Snap to grid' is set then one of the above points on an object snaps to the nearest grid point.

Notes

- Use the Grid button to view the grid - this does not change the status of the snap.

- Rotations and snap - If 'Snap to grid' or 'Snap to object' any rotation snaps to 45 degrees and vertical positions.

- Move and snap - if a rectangle or linked drawing is moved these snap to lines at roughly the same angle the rectangle or link.

- Linked drawings - The four corners of a linked drawing and the imaginary sides of a linked drawing are snap points.
