Variables dialog

Review and set variable items in Product requirements / Orders

Variables are items that have to be set for each product (or for each order) such as, colour of doors, edging trim, type of handles and so on, for example:-

Top colour : RED

Handles    : GREY

Trim       : WHITE

Room number: 01

When entering Product requirements or Orders the program automatically prompts for any variable items that need to be set. The variables can also be reviewed from the Variables ToolBar at the top right of the Requirements or Order details grid.

On selecting these options the program displays the Global or Product variables in the Variables Dialog

The example above shows the Variables dialog for a product. The variable items are features like, Door Material, Carcase Material, Handle type, Hinge ... The Variables and allowed values are set up via the Variables table and can be easily customised.

Range - the allowed range (if any)

Use the list boxes to select from allowed values

Default - use the default value

Copy - copy the answer from the previous item in the product requirement or order list

Merge - use a set of prepared answers for the item. This overwrites any defaults or existing answers.

Notes

- Range can include negative values where, for example, the variable affects the size of a door and might produce a recessed or overhanging door depending on the value set.

- Dialog asks for all the variables in the Quote or Product including any variables that are used in the associated product or part drawings and variables in nested formulae.

Entering answers to variable items - In some cases answers to product variables which supply, for example, a material code, or product code need to be in Upper Case. The program automatically converts answers to Upper Case where necessary.

Product requirements

In the  product requirements screen the product variables dialog prompts for any variables that are referenced by formulae in the information boxes of parts contained within the product. During product explosion the information box formulae are evaluated and the answer placed in the information box in the part list.  If the formula name is not found in the formulae table the evaluated information box is unchanged.
