Custom parts and variables

How to work with non standard parts at the Part library

If working with custom (non standard) products where the product dimensions and other details are unique to each customer it is often necessary to make some of all of the part data variable as well.

To do this (at the Part library) enter formula and variables in the boxes that refer to custom items. These can be any of the Material, Length, Width, or Grain boxes.

Variable items - Variable items can be used in the boxes including the information boxes.

For example, instead of entering, a fixed edging code (in the information boxes for edging) enter a variable , such as: @Edgelong@ .

Any text enclosed in @ symbols is a variable and this allows the actual value, which may vary for each customer, to be entered at the Orders or Product requirements screen.

Notes

 - Variables can only be used when optimising with optimise products ; they are not used and have no effect when choosing the 'Optimise parts' options.
