Use woodStore as board database - Overview

Using woodStore as board database

SC module required.

The V12 board library is not used in this mode and is no longer available on the Libraries menu.

The main items on the Stock menu are listed below.

- Review woodStore database - a read-only view of the boards in the database

- Review reservations - lists the reservations created by V12 and allows these to be viewed and deleted.

- Reservations by board - Stock report

- Reservations by run - Stock report

- Reserve stock - reserve stock for a batch

Summary of operation when using woodStore as the board database

Creating and editing working board lists

When a working board list is created for a cutting list, the program works directly from the woodStore database, selecting suitable boards and offcuts which have free stock to create a snapshot of boards ready for optimisation. The quantities shown in the working board list are correct at this point but are indicative only.

The working board list may be edited but significant changes to boards that are in the woodStore database will result in errors which prevent optimisation.

Optimising with boards which are in woodStore

When a cutting list is optimised, the program obtains an up-to-date stock quantity for each board in the working board list and fully reserves each board for the duration of the optimisation to ensure that the stock remains available. Following optimisation, the reservation is released and the program re-allocates the quantity of each board actually used.

If a board is duplicated in the working board list, only the first instance is used by the optimiser.

The woodStore application must be running in order to optimise with boards which are in the woodStore database, otherwise an error message is reported:

SQL synchronisation request timed out [33181]

Optimising with boards which are not in woodStore

The optimiser observes the quantities and limits set for each board in the working board list. No reservation is requested for these boards.

Pattern editor / Nested pattern editor

If the quantity of boards used by a run changes, the program recalculates the reservation for the run. This may result in an error if there is insufficient stock of boards which are in woodStore.

Transfer to machines

For boards which are already in woodStore, the program first ensures that the stock required for the runs in the batch is still available. When considering the reservations for a board (which reduce the free stock qty), the program ignores an reservation relating to the current batch.

Stock errors which occur at this stage are warnings only and do not prevent transfer.

Following successful transfer, the reservations for runs in a batch are released and the runs are marked as ‘stock issued’ - no further changes may be made to them. The runs will appear as a list of new reservations in the woodStore production list.

New boards are automatically added to the woodStore master data list on transfer (with zero stock quantities). Patterns which use these boards cannot be processed (removed from storage) until stock is received.
